Clean Water Crisis in West Java Worsens, 25 Regions Affected by Drought

The drought and clean water crisis in West Java is reported to be spreading. To date, out of a total of 27 regencies and cities in the province, 25 areas have been affected by the clean water crisis due to the prolonged dry season.

Spokesperson for the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Hadi Rahmat, revealed that this week the clean water crisis has reached residents in 387 villages and sub-districts spread across 175 districts.

“The total number of residents affected by the crisis has reached 160,862 households or 519,687 people,” explained Hadi Rahmat on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

In response to these conditions, a number of cross-sector agencies have moved together to distribute clean water aid to affected residents. To date, the total clean water aid distributed has reached 11,121,000 litres.

Based on BPBD data, Bogor Regency is the area with the most severe drought impact. In this region, more than 180,000 people or around 55,000 households are experiencing difficulty accessing clean water. The crisis has hit 123 villages in 30 districts, with total water aid distribution reaching more than 1.7 million litres.

In addition to Bogor Regency, other areas also experiencing severe impacts include Bekasi Regency, Purwakarta Regency, Sukabumi City, and Bandung Regency. Conversely, only two areas have so far been reported as not experiencing a clean water crisis, namely Cirebon Regency and Kuningan Regency.

Hadi emphasised that inter-agency coordination will continue to be strengthened to ensure clean water supplies remain available for residents in remote areas of West Java affected by the drought.
