Clean Water Crisis: Ciamis BPBD Assists 11,972 Residents

The Ciamis Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is supplying clean water to 4,600 households, or 11,972 people, affected by a clean water crisis across 27 villages in 16 sub-districts.

Head of the Ciamis BPBD, Ani Supiani, said the drought occurring during the dry season in her region has caused the water crisis to spread further. Currently, 44 hamlets and 27 villages across 16 sub-districts have been recorded as experiencing a clean water crisis. Water supply is therefore being provided for 4,600 households, or 11,972 people.

“BPBD officers are supplying clean water to various remote areas. The disaster emergency alert status has been set until September 2026. Clean water assistance is being distributed to help residents,” she said on Thursday (27/8).

According to her, BPBD is not working alone in supplying the water. A number of institutions are also involved, including PMI, BBWS, Ciamis Police, Kodim 0613 Ciamis, SOG Ciamis, MDMC, BJB, BRI, Samsat and PDAM Ciamis.

Total assistance distributed has reached 711,000 litres, or 142 tanks. Water deliveries are continuing to ease the burden on the community.

Meanwhile, Ujang Herman, a resident of Cimari Village, Cikoneng, said the clean water crisis has had a severe impact on families. In addition, agricultural land has failed to be planted because irrigation channels have dried up. Meanwhile, in many fish ponds, there is no water flow, causing many fish to die.

“In these drought conditions, farmers and pond owners are suffering major losses,” he said.
