Clean Water Becomes Wedding Dowry for Couples in Bantul

A marriage is not always associated with a dowry in the form of money, gold, or a set of prayer equipment. In Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, clean water became part of the dowry in the Nikah Bareng Keren event held at the Sewon Religious Affairs Office (KUA) on Thursday (27/8/2026). Dozens of couples took part in the marriage solemnisation during the mass wedding. Uniquely, the marriage ceremony was conducted on top of a water tanker truck. The ceremony did not stop there, as each couple also provided a dowry in the form of one tanker of water, which was subsequently donated to areas affected by drought. The wedding thus became a moment for sharing compassion amid the rising need for clean water during the dry season.
