Clean Friday campaign
Clean Friday campaign
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja says the Clean Friday
campaign will be expanded as a part of the clean-city policy
carried out at City Hall and the capital's five mayoralties in
order to increase public awareness of the need to improve
sanitation.
"If the campaign is successful, Jakarta will become a model
city for other regions to follow," Surjadi said in a speech read
at City Hall on Monday.
The governor said the success of the drive will mainly depend
on the citizens' attitudes. "The people play a crucial role in
this noble effort. So be good and obedient citizens," Surjadi was
quoted by Antara as saying.
He reiterated that as the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta
should become a model city in terms of cleanliness. "Other towns
in the country will then look to Jakarta." (bas)
