Clean energy transition becomes new focus for business innovation
The Ministry of Environment is encouraging the business world to build a culture of sustainable innovation that impacts both the environment and society, serving as a new focus to support the clean energy transition.
The Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Moh Jumhur Hidayat, stated that the world is currently facing a crisis that requires innovation not only for business competition but also to enhance social and environmental resilience amidst various global challenges.
“Through various innovations presented by the business world, real contributions can be driven towards environmental recovery, waste management, river basin rehabilitation, tree planting, clean energy transition, and the development of a green economy, which are vital parts of the national sustainable development agenda,” Jumhur said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
Jumhur explained the ‘triple planetary crisis’, which includes climate change, loss of biodiversity, and environmental pollution and degradation. He stated that to address these challenges, innovation is required based on four main principles: Green Jobs, Social Preparation and Social Integration, the implementation of a Zero Accident culture, and Ecological Repentance (Tobat Ekologis).
The Ecological Repentance movement was initiated by the Ministry of Environment to encourage a change in perspective and behaviour among all stakeholders towards the environment through collaboration and sustained real action.
Jumhur emphasised that environmental and social innovations developed by the business world play a crucial role in supporting the accelerated achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia.
Jumhur also expressed his appreciation for PT Sucofindo (Persero), which consistently presents the Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) 2026 as a platform to recognise businesses and communities providing impactful environmental and social innovations.
According to him, this award is not merely a form of appreciation but also part of an effort to show that sustainability commitments can be realised through collaboration and innovation that provides tangible benefits to the environment and society.
The President Director of PT Sucofindo, Sandry Pasambuna, emphasised that this event is not just an award ceremony, but also a space for collaboration and a platform for sharing best practices among business actors in developing sustainability innovations.
“For companies participating in PROPER, the ENSIA appreciation can serve as added value in supporting national award aspects in the Green and Gold PROPER assessments,” said Sandry.
Sandry added that the theme “Innovation for Sustainable Business and Resilient Community” was chosen in response to various global dynamics, ranging from geopolitical uncertainties that could disrupt supply chains to the threat of ecological disasters due to climate change.
This year, ENSIA introduces a specific innovation, shifting its focus from river basin conservation to clean energy transition. This change reflects the urgency of energy security, resource efficiency, and emission reduction as part of the efforts to face climate change and evolving global dynamics.
Through this theme, PT Sucofindo encourages business actors to continue developing innovations capable of optimising resource efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and strengthening the socio-economic resilience of surrounding communities.
Meanwhile, the Commercial Director of PT Sucofindo, Agus Permadi, revealed that the enthusiasm of business participants for ENSIA continues to increase every year.
ENSIA 2026 recorded the participation of 253 companies with 954 papers and 48 local heroes, a significant increase compared to the previous year, which involved 178 companies and 690 papers.
This achievement demonstrates the growing commitment of the business world to providing innovations that support environmental, social, and business sustainability.
