Classroom collapses in Banyuwangi
BANYUWANGI, East Java: A classroom collapsed early on Tuesday morning in Banyuwangi regency, East Java, after hours of heavy rain, but no injuries were reported.
"Fortunately the school was still closed at the time of the accident," said principal Endang Nurhayati.
There are about 900 schools in Banyuwangi, from elementary schools to high schools, and about 523 of these schools are in desperate need of repair.
Most of the schools were built in the 1970s when Soeharto's New Order regime launched a massive school construction program. -- Antara
