A fire broke out in a classroom at SMA Negeri 1 Ciwaringin in Bringin Village, Ciwaringin District, Cirebon Regency, on Friday (5/6/2026) at around 1.43 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The blaze is suspected to have been triggered by remnants of rubbish burning that spread to the school building.

Eno Sujana, Head of the Firefighting, Rescue, and Infrastructure Division at the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Service, explained that the fire report was first received by the Palimanan Sector fire service at 1.43 p.m. from a teacher named Nur Laely.

“Responding to the report, our personnel immediately rushed to the scene,” Eno stated on Friday.

Firefighters arrived at the location at 2.00 p.m. However, thanks to the alertness of the school community, the flames had already been successfully subdued.

“When officers arrived, the fire had actually been extinguished through the mutual cooperation of teachers, staff, and students. Our team then immediately carried out the cooling-down process to ensure no remaining hotspots,” Eno continued.

Based on an on-site assessment, the fire destroyed an area of approximately 50 square metres. Material losses from the incident are estimated at Rp10 million.

Several school assets were reportedly destroyed, including a pile of unused books, six study desks and four chairs, and several other building materials. Eno confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. The fire service also urged the public to be more vigilant and ensure fires are completely extinguished when burning rubbish so similar incidents do not recur.
