Clash Between Villagers in Adonara, East Flores, Leaves Two Dead
A clash between villagers broke out again on Adonara Island, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday (18/7). The bloody incident, involving residents from two villages, resulted in two deaths and several houses being burnt down. Based on gathered information, the clash occurred between residents of Narasaosina Village and Waiburak Village, East Adonara District. The fatalities were reported to be from each of the feuding villages. The Head of Ile Boleng Community Health Centre, Stefanus Ola Bura, confirmed that his team treated three victims from the incident. One victim, with the initials NI, 21, was pronounced dead due to serious injuries from a sharp weapon. ‘We received three people, one died, and two were referred. One was referred to Larantuka and the other to Lewoleba,’ said Stefanus when contacted by Media Indonesia via telephone. Stefanus detailed that the deceased victim, NI, a male, died from a sharp weapon wound that struck his heart. Meanwhile, the two other injured victims were PBI, 19, a male who suffered a sharp weapon wound to the upper chest, and SS, 63, a female who sustained sharp weapon injuries to both thighs. Another fatality was reported from Narasaosina Village. However, the identity of that victim and the exact number of injured from the village are not yet known in detail. Besides causing casualties, the clash also resulted in considerable material losses. Several houses were reportedly burnt down by the mob during the conflict. As of the time this report was filed, the situation at the scene was reported to be gradually conducive, with strict security maintained by police and military personnel. ‘Currently, the situation is safe and guarded by security forces,’ Stefanus added. There has been no official statement from local security forces regarding the trigger of the clash or the legal steps to be taken following the deadly incident in East Adonara.
