Clarification of fake money
Clarification of fake money
From Republika
The plastic Rp 100,000 banknote, which is considered
counterfeit money by the public is indeed genuine money, which,
unfortunately, is defective.
This banknote is considered "counterfeit money" because it has
been found that in a certain part of the banknote the ink will
come off when rubbed with either your nail or a sharp object.
It is true that some of the banknotes are not properly
printed and the ink on certain parts of the banknotes can smudge.
However, this does not mean that these banknotes are counterfeit.
Anybody in possession of defective banknotes may exchange them
with good ones in a bank, which will later hand over the
defective notes to Bank Indonesia. Of course your banknotes must
have the characteristics of genuine money. Rubbing the ink on the
plastic banknotes of Rp 100,000 denomination is certainly not the
right way to find out whether they are genuine or not.
They are genuine if they have the following characteristics:
a) there is a clear window with the picture of rice stem and
cotton; b) the color window has the logo of Bank Indonesia inside
it; c) the logo is located above the picture of the House of
People's Representatives, the letter "I" will be rather obscure
or vague if it seen through the color window; and d) the main
picture, the inscription of Bank Indonesia and the nominal value
will feel coarse when touched.
