Clarification from SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja Student on Being Ousted After Criticising MBG

Bayu Elnino, a student at SMA Muhammadiyah 3, has provided clarification regarding a video showing him claiming to have been ousted from his position after criticising the free nutritious meal programme (MBG). He denies all statements made in the viral video. The clarification video was uploaded to his personal Instagram account @bayuekni, alongside the official account of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja, @smamugajogja. In the video, Bayu, still wearing his OSIS uniform, provides detailed clarification on the points he made in the previous video. He states that what he said previously was untrue. Bayu also claims he is not under any pressure from any party in making this clarification. “Official clarification, Bayu Elnino SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta, I apologise profusely for the commotion that has occurred, I apologise profusely to the parties harmed by the circulating narratives above,” Bayu wrote in his post, as seen by detikJogja on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Regarding the clarification, Muflikh Najib, Deputy Head of Student Affairs at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja, confirmed it. He also assured that no sanctions have been imposed on Bayu. “It’s done, he has made the clarification video. Yes (from Bayu himself), no pressure,” Muflikh said when contacted today. “Our main point is just to straighten things out and provide guidance, and to accompany,” he added. Furthermore, Muflikh stated that with this clarification, the school considers the matter resolved. He also said they will not investigate the viral video unless the foundation leadership requests further investigation. “For that (investigating the previous video), we are still waiting for confirmation from our superiors, our leaders. But for now, we will leave it as the clarification issue is settled,” he explained. “If that wasn’t conveyed (the intent and purpose of making the previous viral video), because perhaps Mas Bayu was in a condition where he was just following the flow, so to speak,” Muflikh continued. Previously, a video showed a young man purportedly named Bayu, claimed to be the Chairman of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja, being ousted from his position after criticising the MBG programme. The school denied this. In the video uploaded to the X account @regar_oposisi, the young man introduces himself as Bayu and holds the position of OSIS chairman at SMA Muhammadiyah 3. In the 1 minute 17 second video, he claims to have been unilaterally removed from his position by the school for criticising and rejecting MBG. “Bayu, OSIS chairman of SMA 3 Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Unilaterally ousted as OSIS chairman by the school for criticising and rejecting MBG. Please clarify @muhammadiyah,” read the tweet in the post, as seen by detikJogja on Monday (6/4/2026). When asked for confirmation on the video’s authenticity, Muflikh confirmed that the young man is indeed named Bayu and is a 12th-grade student at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja. However, Muflikh denied that Bayu is the OSIS chairman at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja. He said he had called Bayu for clarification. “Mas Bayu himself is not the OSIS chairman, not the IPM chairman, so Mas Bayu’s current position is in 12th grade, while organisational leaders are in 11th grade. Last year in 11th grade, Mas Bayu did not join the organisation and is not the chairman. He joined in 10th grade, but only for a few months then resigned,” he explained when met by reporters at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja on Monday (6/4). “When we asked, the child himself said it was a lie, but we haven’t finished delving deeper because 12th graders are having exams. For now, we can only say this,” Muflikh added. In addition, Muflikh noted an inconsistency in the timeline, as the MBG programme first arrived at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jogja this year, which does not match Bayu’s statements in the video. “We received MBG this year, and Mas Bayu is in 12th grade this year, while organisations are for 11th grade. So everything he said is untrue,” he stated. Muflikh said the school does not know when or where the video was made. However, he emphasised that the school will still investigate the incident. “I don’t know, but from the video, it looks like a gathering or something, I don’t know,” Muflikh clarified. “We are delving into this issue, investigating the motive, the purpose, what it’s for. In our words, this is disturbing,” he concluded.
