Civil Service Police Monitor Alcohol and Expired Products on Panggang Island
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Civil Service Police (Satpol PP) of the North Thousand Islands sub-district, Thousand Islands regency, carried out inspections monitoring the circulation of alcoholic beverages and expired products at a number of shops in the Panggang Island urban village.
"This activity was carried out as an effort to maintain public order whilst simultaneously protecting consumers ahead of the holy month of Ramadan," said the Head of the North Thousand Islands Sub-district Satpol PP, Edi Syahrudi, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said officers conducted checks at a number of shops in the RT 02, RT 06, and RT 07 areas of RW 03 in Panggang Island urban village.
Four shops were inspected and no circulation of alcoholic beverages, expired food or drinks, or damaged packaging was found. "All products inspected were safe for consumption," he said.
Monitoring will continue to be carried out periodically during Ramadan, including on other inhabited islands. "This activity will be ongoing," he said.
The agency hopes that business operators' awareness will continue to increase so as to create a conducive environment during Ramadan, he said.
The Head of the North Thousand Islands Sub-district, Yulihardi, added that the monitoring constituted a preventive measure to provide a sense of safety and comfort for the community in welcoming Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
"We want to ensure that food and beverages circulating among the public are in safe and fit-for-consumption condition so that residents can carry out their fasting worship in peace," he said.
A shop owner named Dani (45) said the monitoring served as a reminder for traders to be more disciplined in ensuring the quality of their merchandise.
"We have become more careful in checking production dates and expiry dates. This is for the common good so that buyers feel safe and comfortable," he said.
