Civil Service Police Apprehend Five Men Selling Plecostomus Fish Meat in Pasar Baru Area
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Civil Service Police apprehended five men selling plecostomus fish meat along the bank of the Ciliwung River tributary in the Pasar Baru area, Central Jakarta, after receiving reports from residents about their suspicious activities. “We secured them after receiving reports from residents who were suspicious of their activities,” said the Head of the Civil Service Police for Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, Darwis Silitonga, in Jakarta on Friday. Darwis stated that the five were residents of Cikarang, and all the plecostomus fish caught were immediately cleaned, with the meat, eggs, and skin separated. According to him, based on the confessions of the five secured residents, the plecostomus fish meat was sold to collectors in Cikarang for use as an ingredient in siomay. “We secured five men who were working and selling plecostomus fish meat,” he said. Darwis added that the fish eggs were utilised as fishing bait, and only one of the five men had an ID card. Darwis continued that these plecostomus fish hunters always sought fish in river locations where the water flow was reduced or during low tide. Currently, he said, all their catch was confiscated by the Civil Service Police officers for destruction. “We destroy everything by burying it. We also asked them not to sell plecostomus fish meat for use in siomay,” he added.
