Civil Servants Work from Home Every Friday, KRL Passenger Numbers Drop 9 Percent
The volume of passengers on the Jabodetabek Commuter Line or Kereta Rel Listrik (KRL) dropped nine percent today, Friday (8/5/2026), following the enforcement of the Work From Home (WFH) policy for the majority of government agencies and companies in the Jabodetabek region.
Based on monitoring by KAI Commuter on Friday (8/5/2026) until 1 PM WIB, the total volume of users boarding the Commuter Line across all Jabodetabek service lines was 499,101 people, a nine percent decrease compared to other working days or 436,520 people.
“Major stations such as Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang did not experience the same level of user density during the morning peak hour (peak hour) as on other working days,” said VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, in an official statement on Friday (8/5/2026).
“Bogor Station recorded 23,000 boarding passengers or 23 percent lower compared to other working days,” Karina stated.
Meanwhile, at several departure stations, such as Bekasi Station, there were more than 22,000 users or a nine percent decrease, while Sudimara Station had more than 11,000 users (down 14 percent).
Tangerang Station had more than 10,000 users (down 19 percent), and specifically Bekasi Timur Station had more than 5,000 users or a six percent decrease.
In addition to departure stations, arrival stations located in business areas also showed a decline. For example, Sudirman Station recorded 32,000 users or a five percent decrease.
Gondangdia Station had 15,000 users (down 21 percent), Juanda Station had more than 14,000 users (down eight percent), and Tebet Station had more than 18,000 users or a seven percent decrease.
“A total of 1,063 Commuter Line Jabodetabek trips are still being operated today,” said Karina.
This measure is taken to maintain safe distances between users and provide time flexibility for those who still use public transportation.
“KAI Commuter urges users who continue to prioritise safety by following the instructions of station officers for collective comfort. For the latest information through the official application and official company social media at @commuterline,” she concluded.
