Civil servants' welfare
Civil servants' welfare
From Kompas
Civil servants are paid to serve the people, in accordance with the rules. To achieve satisfactory performance on the part of civil servants, the government should pay them reasonably well.
Insufficient salaries are likely to drive them to corrupt practices. I am happy to learn that the government is now making a serious effort to improve the living conditions of civil servants.
As a matter of fact, the government has raised the salaries of civil servants a number of times in the past few years, but the pay rise never helps them to improve their living standards. The reason is that every time the government raises civil servants' salaries, the prices of daily commodities also go up.
Given this situation, I think the government should consider providing civil servants with such necessities as salted fish, cooking oil, salt, sugar, soap, milk for babies, allowances for electricity bills, school fees, etc., instead of increasing civil servants' salaries.
