Civil servants to plant 20,000 trees

BEKASI: The Bekasi administration ordered on Tuesday all 10,000 civil servants to donate two trees each as part of Environment Day commemoration which falls on Nov. 12.

Mayor Achmad Zurfaih said each of the regents will be the coordinator responsible for the regreening movement.

He added that the commemoration ceremony would be held at Sumur Batu village in Bantar Gebang district, Bekasi. The area is near the Jakarta administration's main garbage dump, alleged by many to have caused environmental damage.

"Nov. 12 will also mark the municipality's movement to reduce pollution and to rehabilitate the damaged environment in the town. The two-tree policy will be mandatory every year," he said. -- Antara.
