Civil servants, soldiers to plant trees

BOGOR: Civil servants and soldiers have been told to donate 10 trees each for the municipality's regreening project that culminates on Nov. 12, an officer said on Friday.

Capt. Dede Komaruddin of the Bogor district military command said an estimated 53,000 trees would be collected from the bureaucrats and soldiers.

"The trees will be planted along the banks of the Ciliwung and Cisadane rivers, and along several roads downtown. Some of the trees also will be donated to residents of the Cimanggu housing complex, who have no trees in their backyards," he said.

He added that soldiers had been cultivating longan and durian fruit tree seedlings over the last five months. -- JP
