Civil servants out of business
PEKANBARU, Riau: Governor Soeripto said yesterday he would punish civil servants in his administration whose names appeared on the list of any private company's board of directors.
In a meeting with officials, he said that the local government's regulation of 1980 made it clear that civil servants were prohibited from taking up second jobs at private companies, and were prohibited from owning shares in private companies.
The governor also expressed dismay over declining discipline among his employees, Antara reported.
He said that in order to improve their service to the public, his staff had no choice but to improve their discipline. He noted that Indonesia was entering an era when world economic competition is tough. (pan)
