A house in Banjar Dinas Budaga, Semarapura Kauh, Klungkung, was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of Thursday (26/2/2026). The house belonged to a civil servant named I Wayan Suteja Buana (51).

The cause of the fire is believed to have started from a cigarette butt that fell and came into contact with several flammable objects in one of the rooms. The fire then spread and grew larger.

“The initial suspicion from the homeowner is that the fire was likely caused by a dropped cigarette butt,” said the Head of the Klungkung Civil Service Police Unit and Fire Department (Satpol PP Damkar), Dewa Putu Suwarbawa, on Thursday (26/2/2026).

All the residents of the house were asleep when the fire broke out. The owner only realised it after the fire had spread significantly, burning one of the rooms. The owner and several family members tried to put out the fire themselves before finally reporting the incident to the Klungkung Satpol PP Damkar.

Shortly after, several firefighters arrived with three fire engines and immediately began extinguishing the fire. The fire was finally extinguished in approximately one hour. Then, the area was cooled down to ensure that the fire was completely out.

A number of valuables in the house, such as mattresses, clothes, and documents, could not be saved. However, the losses are still under investigation as the homeowner is still calculating the damage.

“During the incident, we also found a 12 kg gas cylinder that was also burned,” said Suwarbawa.
