Civil servants get salaries by mail

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: The provincial administration plans to use postal services to send the salaries of its employees working in remote areas.

Governor H.M. Said said the service will expedite the payment process because the state postal agency Perum Pos dan Giro covers all districts and villages, the Antara news agency reported.

Currently, a state employee has to go to the nearest regency capital to collect his monthly pay packet, which is costly and time consuming for the employee.

The governor said with the new method, government employees living on islands around Kotabaru regency would no longer have to cross the sea in fishing boats as they do now. (par)
