Civil Servants from the Ministry of Public Works Ordered Home by Minister from Overseas, Involved in Bribery Case
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, has ordered the return of two civil servants from his ministry who are currently studying abroad. Both are suspected of ethical violations and involvement in a bribery case.
Dody revealed that one civil servant, who is studying in Japan, is allegedly involved in a bribery case. Meanwhile, another civil servant in London is said to have ethical issues due to frequently flaunting wealth and criticising the government’s priority programme, namely the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.
“So, there are indeed two civil servants that we have called back. One is related to a bribery case. The other is in London. It’s an ethical issue,” said Dody to reporters in Wonosobo, Friday (15/5/2026).
According to Dody, the civil servant in Japan has been summoned and questioned by law enforcement officials. The Ministry of Public Works, he said, only facilitated the summoning process.
“The first one was summoned because of the bribery case. Then, he was summoned by law enforcement officials. We only acted as a facilitator. I don’t know what the outcome will be,” he said.
Meanwhile, the civil servant in London is still in the process of being repatriated to Indonesia. Dody estimates that the civil servant will arrive in the country this weekend to undergo further examination.
“We called him back. He will probably arrive on Sunday, and we will complete the process on Monday,” he said.
Dody emphasised that both civil servants received scholarships funded by the state. Therefore, he believes that their alleged actions have the potential to hurt the feelings of the public who have funded their education through taxes.
“Civil servants are supported by the public. The public consists of various categories. Some have, and some don’t. If that happens, it will definitely hurt the feelings of the public, especially those who may be in the lower to middle class,” he said.
The Ministry of Public Works is currently awaiting the results of an internal investigation from the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM). After the process is complete, Dody assured that sanctions will be imposed on both civil servants.
“Let the team from BPSDM examine it first. Then, we will impose sanctions,” he said.
