Civil Servants Corps

Civil Servants Corps

From Forum Keadilan

Members of the Civil Servants Corps (Korpri) cannot channel their aspirations freely and have to leave their jobs if they want to join a minority political party. This was said by Waskito Reksosoedirdjo, the Secretary-General of the Civil Servant Corps, in a newspaper published in Bandung last September. The statement was made in response to the confusing situation following the statement made by the General Chairman of the Civil Servants Organization. Soerjatna Soebrata, the chairman, said that "members of the civil servants organization may join a political party provided they have approval from their bosses."

To avoid confusion among the civil servants I call on the Korpri Secretary-General to clarify if Korpri is a government- related organization or non-governmental organization, or whether it is a professional organization. In this relation I suggest that all mass or professional organizations under the auspices of the government should not be allowed to interfere with the political aspirations of their members.
