Civil Servants Can Work From Anywhere Before Eidulfitri, Schedule Set by Each Institution
JAKARTA — The Interior Minister Tito Karnavian has announced that the government is providing flexible implementation of a Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy to reduce congestion during the exodus period before and after Eidulfitri.
The policy may be applied to civil servants on 16, 17, 25, 26, and 27 March 2026, in accordance with arrangements set by each ministry, institution, and regional government.
“This must be regulated by each regional head and ministry or institution. This means there will be an extended holiday from 16 to 27 March. I am not actually calling it a holiday, but Working From Anywhere,” said Tito in a statement on Monday (9/3/2026).
According to him, this measure is necessary to ensure transport safety, anticipate potential crowding at tourist destinations, and guarantee the availability and price stability of basic necessities approaching the religious holiday.
Specifically for inflation control, regional heads are requested to coordinate with the Regional Leaders Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), distributors, business associations, and market managers to ensure adequate supply and affordable prices.
Meanwhile, Tito emphasised that all regional heads must remain alert in their respective areas to ensure optimal public service during the celebration of Eidulfitri 1447 Hijriah.
The policy also responds to the phenomenon of several regional heads planning pilgrimage trips close to Eidulfitri, which could mean they are not in their areas during this important period.
“When the peak of community activities occurs and people are on holiday, we should not be on holiday. Rather, at the peak of activities we should ensure that the public can carry out the Eid celebration arrangements, with the exodus period, the return journey, with controlled prices, tourist sites that are well-managed and maintained,” said the former National Police Chief.
