Civil Servant Suspected of Stealing 30 AC Units from Polewali Mandar Regent's Office in West Sulawesi
A civil servant identified as AA (44) is suspected of orchestrating and carrying out the theft of 30 air conditioning units from various rooms at the Polewali Mandar Regent’s Office in West Sulawesi. The suspect has been arrested by police.
“The civil servant, identified as AA, is suspected to be the main perpetrator of the theft,” said Polres Polman’s Reskrim Chief, AKP Budi Adi, on Sunday (24 May).
The crime was uncovered following reports of missing air conditioning units in several offices at the regent’s office. Police conducted an investigation leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“The first incident occurred on Monday (11 May), when a guard noticed some AC units missing. A check of various rooms revealed several units had been stolen from the secretariat and department offices,” he added.
In front of police, Budi said the suspect confessed to stealing since February. Police also arrested AR (36), suspected of receiving the stolen goods.
“The thefts began in February, with the suspect operating during weekends when the regent’s office was quiet. He also admitted to stealing from the PKK Madatte Building and the Transmigration Office,” he explained.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing as authorities interrogate both the suspect and the receiver.
“Both suspects are currently detained at Polres Polman for further investigation,” he added.
As a result of their actions, the civil servant faces charges under Article 479 in conjunction with Article 480 and a subsidiary charge under Article 36 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), while the receiver is charged under Article 486 of the KUHP.
