Civil Servant Sets Fire to Transportation Department Office in Bangka Belitung After Promotion Request Denied by Superior

Suspect AS carried out the arson on the provincial transportation department head’s room due to frustration and disappointment over his promotion request from grade 3B to 3C not being approved by the department head (his superior), said Deputy Head of Sub-Directorate III of the Joint Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bangka Belitung Provincial Police, Commissioner Faisal Fatsey, as quoted by detikSumbagsel on Saturday (2/5/2026). The arson of the Bangka Belitung transportation department head’s room by Pengki occurred on Wednesday (29/4) night. The contents of the department head’s room were completely destroyed by the fire. Faisal stated that before setting the room ablaze on Wednesday afternoon, Pengki had come to the office to clock out for the day. He returned around 18:00 WIB while carrying fuel. “The suspect returned to the office bringing an iron bar and Pertalite petrol that the suspect had purchased. Upon arriving at the location, the suspect pried open the window of the department head’s room, then poured the Pertalite on the wooden window frame and the walls of the department head’s room,” he explained. The suspect then recorded and uploaded a video of the fire to his social media platform. The suspect then fled to a relative’s place in South Bangka or the location of his arrest.
