Civil Servant Found Dead at Private Residence in Indramayu

A civil servant identified only as I was found dead at his private residence in a housing estate in Terusan Village, Sindang District, Indramayu Regency, West Java. The victim is strongly suspected of having taken his own life.

Based on information gathered, the body was discovered on Monday (24/8) at around 5.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. Local estate security officer Aji said the victim was first found on the second floor of his house just before Maghrib prayer time.

Aji confirmed that the victim was a civil servant and was alone at home at the time of the incident. ‘The information is that his wife was at her parents’ house. The children were also with their mother,’ Aji said on Tuesday (25/8).

The discovery of I’s body began with concern from family members who had difficulty contacting the victim. The family then asked a colleague of the victim to check on the condition of the house.

Upon inspection, the victim was found already lifeless in a hanging position. Ironically, the victim was found still wearing his complete civil service uniform. Based on accounts from local residents received by Aji, the victim had reportedly expressed an intention to end his life to family members on several occasions before the incident occurred.

However, the exact cause of the desperate act is not yet known. Aji said the victim had lived in the housing estate for a long time but tended to be reserved.

‘I do not know the victim’s personality well. He had indeed lived here for a long time, but I do not know what kind of person he was because I only passed by and greeted him, never had a conversation,’ he added.

Sindang Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Karnala, confirmed the incident. He stated that police had processed the crime scene immediately after receiving a report from residents.

‘The initial assumption is indeed suicide by hanging,’ Karnala said.

The victim’s body has been evacuated to Indramayu Regional General Hospital for further examination. Police are continuing their investigation to delve into the motive behind the victim’s actions.
