Civil Servant Dies After Being Struck by Fallen Tree on Trans Flores Road in East Manggarai

A civil servant named Lodovikus Odung, aged 50, died after being struck by a fallen tree on the Trans Flores Road, specifically in Ulung Laing Hamlet, Bangka Pau Village, South Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The incident occurred whilst Lodovikus was travelling from the direction of Borong, East Manggarai, towards his workplace in Manggarai by motorcycle. He was evacuated to hospital, but his life could not be saved.

“The victim was a civil servant employed under the PPPK (Government Employee with Work Agreement) scheme at the Family Planning and Child Welfare Service of Manggarai Regency who was heading to his duties in Cibal District, Manggarai Regency,” said Borong Sector Police Chief, Senior Police Officer Kaha Rudin.

Kaha Rudin revealed that the tree that struck Lodovikus had been toppled by strong winds. Lodovikus was killed instantly by the fallen tree.

Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds, have been affecting East Manggarai and other areas in NTT. The poor weather is expected to persist until 10 March 2026.
