Civil Coalition Delivers Andrie Yunus's Letter to Prabowo
A civil society coalition calling itself Solidaritas untuk Andrie Yunus held a symbolic action at the Presidential Palace complex on Friday morning, 17 April 2026. Around 15 representatives from the coalition visited the Palace to deliver a letter to President Prabowo Subianto.
Some of them were seen unfurling black banners reading “President, form the TGPF immediately! Try the perpetrators in a civilian court, not a military court”. There were also banners reading “Want a civilian position, but afraid of civilian courts” and “We want a Knight President”.
A coalition representative was seen carrying a green-coloured letter written by Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS). Meanwhile, KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya was seen carrying a framed photo containing a large printed letter from the coalition. Both letters were addressed to Prabowo via the State Secretariat Ministry.
Dimas stated that the coalition’s visit to the Palace aimed to reaffirm the importance of comprehensively resolving the attack on Andrie Yunus. In addition, the coalition intended to pressure Prabowo to form an independent joint fact-finding team, or TGPF. The coalition also conveyed Andrie Yunus’s stance rejecting the resolution of his case in the military court domain.
“Of course, the main essence is handing over the letter to the State Secretariat for it to be forwarded to the President of the Republic of Indonesia,” Dimas said in front of the Presidential Palace complex gate in Jakarta on Friday.
This symbolic action was obstructed by Presidential Palace security officers. They claimed the action was unlicensed. The security officers and several coalition members present also exchanged heated words. “Do you know the law? This isn’t the way,” said one of the officers.
In the end, several coalition representatives were allowed to enter the State Secretariat Ministry building to deliver the letters to Prabowo.
Human rights activist Andrie Yunus was doused with caustic liquid at the intersection of Jalan Salemba 1-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday midnight, 12 March 2026. As a result of the attack, the KontraS Deputy Coordinator suffered burns on several parts of his body. He is currently being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Central Jakarta.
The Metro Jaya Police initially investigated the terror case, then released the initials of two suspected attackers. On the same day, the TNI Military Police Centre arrested four suspected perpetrators with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant. The four suspects are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency.
The latest development is that the TNI Puspom has handed over the case files of the four suspects to the Jakarta II-08 Military Court in Jakarta. Head of Military Prosecutor II-07 Jakarta Colonel Corps of Law (Chk) Andri Wijaya claimed that the motive for the dousing by the four suspects was personal vendetta. Andri Wijaya stated that the personal vendetta was triggered by a previous incident involving the victim.
The incident in question was when Andrie Yunus disrupted a closed meeting discussing the revision of the TNI Law at a hotel in Central Jakarta in 2025.
