Civil Coalition Creates Mural of Andrie Yunus at Site of Attack
A civil society coalition carried out an action to create a mural in commemoration of the 30th day since the planned attempted murder of human rights activist Andrie Yunus. The mural, depicting a silhouette of Andrie’s face accompanied by the phrase “Wounds Do Not Silence the Voice,” is displayed on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, the scene of the crime (TKP) for the acid attack case.
“We are placing the mural as a reminder that this location is the site of a human rights violation that befell our colleague, Andrie Yunus,” said coalition representative Hema at the site on Sunday, 12 April 2026.
In addition to creating the mural, the coalition held other activities, such as reconstructing the points where the perpetrators stalked Andrie, scattering flowers, and reciting prayers together for the recovery of the Deputy Coordinator of Kontras.
The reconstruction route taken by the coalition began at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI). Before the incident, Andrie was recording a podcast at the office led by Muhammad Isnur.
The journey continued through the Megaria bus stop and the Cikini petrol station. In surveillance camera footage gathered by the coalition, the acid pourer stalked Andrie to the petrol station area after the activist left the YLBHI office.
The reconstruction was then carried out at Diponegoro Park. At this location, surveillance footage collected by the coalition captured indications of another perpetrator coordinating with the acid pourer executor. The activities concluded on Jalan Salemba I-Talang in Central Jakarta.
On the same occasion, the coalition urged President Prabowo Subianto to immediately form an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF).
Member of the Advocacy Team for Democracy, Fatia Maulidiyanti, said the coalition also urged the Constitutional Court to promptly decide on the judicial review lawsuit against the TNI Law regarding general courts. “And urged Komnas HAM to immediately conduct a pro-justicia investigation to strengthen law enforcement in the Andrie case,” said the former Kontras Coordinator.
Andrie Yunus was doused with corrosive chemical liquid on 12 March while passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta. Medical records state that the Deputy Coordinator of Kontras suffered burns of more than 20 percent due to this attack.
Last week, Puspom TNI handed over the case file and evidence to the Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta. If the file is deemed complete, the Andrie case will begin to be tried at the Military Court 08-II Jakarta.
From statements by Puspom TNI, there are four perpetrators of the acid attack. They are NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, from the air and sea branches. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant.
On 3 April, Andrie Yunus wrote a letter of objection if his case is tried through the military court mechanism. He demanded that this case be tried through the general court mechanism.
According to him, the legal process through the military court has the potential not to provide justice for the victim. Whoever the perpetrators are, whether civilians or military personnel, they must be tried through the general court. Andrie views the military court as often becoming a space for impunity for military personnel who commit legal and human rights violations.
