Ciujung River Suspected of Pollution, Serang Environmental Agency to Summon Industries
The Serang Regency Environmental Agency (Dinas LH) will summon industries operating along the Ciujung River as part of an investigation into suspected pollution of the waterway.
Agency Secretary Bagja Saputra stated that water samples are currently being taken at four points, both upstream and downstream, to assess water quality. “Various parameters are being examined, such as acidity levels and the presence of mineral content that should not be there,” Bagja said on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
Bagja noted that the assessment will not rely solely on current laboratory test results but will also consider data from previous years. The phenomenon of the river water turning black has reportedly recurred over the last several years. “After this, we will review the status and condition of the river. We will also examine data from the past five years to see if there has been any progress,” he said.
Once the results are available, the agency will summon industries located along the Ciujung River basin and request that they prepare documents related to their wastewater treatment plants (IPAL). “After that, we will call them in. We will remind them to check and present their documents, to determine whether they have complied with regulations or not,” Bagja explained.
In addition to suspected industrial pollution, the agency will also investigate the impact of household waste. “We are being fair. Therefore, we will check whether this pollution is solely caused by factories or also by domestic waste,” he added.
Meanwhile, regional parliament member Ahmad Muhibbin (Ibin) said the Serang Regency government will seek clarification and inspect industries along the Ciujung River. He urged all industries to comply with waste management regulations. “The environmental agency will provide technical recommendations during the meeting. The bottom line is that all industries and activities must operate according to the rules. Everyone is obliged to comply with regulations, and no pollution is allowed,” he stated.
