City to host Idul Fitri bazaars

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has called on Jakarta's entrepreneurs to set up stalls at special bazaars organized in the city's five mayoralties in the run-up to Idul Fitri.

Jaya Sukma, an executive of the Small-Scale Entrepreneurs Association (GUSK), said that street vendors, cooperatives, companies and other traders were welcome to register at the association's office at the City Hall from Tuesday this week.

Jaya estimated that the bazaars, which will be held on different days, would involve between 150 and 300 traders from each mayoralty.

The bazaars will focus mainly on selling basic commodities and other essential needs for the approaching Idul Fitri holiday, he added.

Bazaars will be held at the City Hall in Central Jakarta from Jan. 12 to Jan. 14, with a further two-day bazaar planned for the mayoralty office in Tanah Abang beginning on Jan 12.

A five-day bazaar will be held at the East Jakarta mayoralty office beginning next Monday.

In North Jakarta, the local administration will hold a four- day bazaar at the sports stadium on Jl. Yos Sudarso starting from Thursday this week.

Jaya said that he had yet to receive details of the bazaars in West and South Jakarta.

"The city administration has given each of the five mayoralties Rp 25 million to organize the events," Jaya said.

He said that at least 130 traders had confirmed their intention of setting up stalls at bazaars throughout the city.

"Most of them are from city and state-owned enterprises," he added. (ylt)
