City to have new stadium

JAKARTA: North Jakarta Planning Agency revealed on Tuesday the government's plan to build a national sports stadium with international-class facilities in the municipality.

The agency head Erwanto said that his office was currently studying the best site for the facility. The options are Penjaringan, Pademangan and Papanggo areas in Sunter.

He reasoned that the presence of the stadium in Sunter would meet the people's need for a public space and sports center, "while it can also prevent the misuse of an idle plot of land".

Project consultant PT Anun Prakarsa Infoindo plans to use a 32.2 hectares plot of land to establish both indoor and outdoor soccer fields, a jogging track plus several recreational facilities, such as a city park and a lake.

The indoor soccer field will be able to hold 25,000 spectators.

Erwanto said that the construction plan will be put on display at Kelapa Gading Mall, North Jakarta, from May 3. -- JP
