City to have new chief Monday
JAKARTA: Outgoing Jakarta Police chief Comr. Gen. Sofjan Jacoeb will hand over command to his successor Insp. Gen. Makbul Padmanagara on Monday.
"The handover ceremony is slated on Dec. 24," Makbul said.
Makbul's previous post as Jakarta Police deputy chief will go to Brig. Gen. Edy Sunarno who will be installed on Friday.
Makbul graduated from the police academy in 1974 and has considerable experience as a police detective.
He rose to prominence in 1996 when he joined the team investigating the bloody July 27 incident at the Democratic Party of Struggle office at Jl. Diponegoro 25, Central Jakarta, which allegedly involved military officers. None of the officers, however, were prosecuted.--JP
