City to close Carrefour Kuningan

JAKARTA: The city administration will close down the Carrefour hypermarket at Pasar Festival on Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, with an official claiming the city wanted to restore the site's function as a sports center.

"We have extended the contracts for Carrefour several times, the latest extension ended in December. We will not extend the contract again because we want the site to be used as a sports center again," Sukri Bey, head of the economic administration bureau of the administration, said on Wednesday.

The Pasar Festival shopping complex, where a Carrefour store is one of the tenants, is located in the Soemantri Brodjonegoro Sports Center. There is a soccer stadium, an indoor stadium, a fitness center, swimming pools and other sporting facilities on the site, all of which are designated for public use.

Besides Carrefour, Pasar Festival also hosts various restaurants and small shops selling medicines, apparel, accessories, books and other items.

Sukri said that the other tenants besides Carrefour were considered as supplementing the sports facilities and would not, therefore, be closed down for the time being. -- JP
