City still needs more bus stops

The city administration is still ignoring City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Mochamad Hindarto's call to build more bus stops in several strategic areas.

The Antara news agency reported yesterday that in some areas in South and Central Jakarta many people crowd around at unauthorized spots to stop the buses.

The areas which still need more bus stops are on Jl. Senen Raya, Jl. Kramat Raya, Jl. Kwitang, Jl. Matraman Raya, in Central Jakarta and Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. Pasar Minggu Raya, Jl. Lebak Bulus and Jl. Ciputat Raya, in South Jakarta.

Reportedly, a bus stop at the Jl. Ciputat Raya and Jl. Lebak Bulus crossing is not able to accommodate the people who wait for the buses, forcing them to wait a few meters away.

According to the 1992 Traffic Law, a person who stops a public transportation vehicle in an unauthorized place may face three months imprisonment or a Rp 50,000 (US22.99) fine.(03)
