JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has assured members
of the City Council that the city administration implements its
city planning policy according to existing regulations.
The governor said on Friday that any decision regarding city
planning, especially which concerns the city's determination to
improve people's welfare, is made based on the law.
Surjadi cited the development of low-cost apartments, in which
the city administration consistently implements the policy, as an
example.
"The city administration will continue to build low-cost
apartments as the best choice in the provision of housing
facilities in the city," Surjadi was quoted as saying by Antara.
He reiterated that the development of vertical housing has
been chosen due to the limited availability of land. It also will
enable the administration to provide more green areas.
The administration has so far built 8,737 low-cost apartments
and another 2,687 apartments are currently under construction.
The present demand for low cost apartments in the city is
projected at about 70,000. (yns)
