City official found killed in hotel room

JAKARTA (JP): A city official of the Tanah Sereal subdistrict
administration office in West Jakarta was found dead in a hotel
room on Saturday morning with two deep wounds, to the throat and
the left wrist.

Police have yet to release a statement about the incident but
relatives of the victim, Heryanto, 36, believed that the "kind
and successful man in the family" was killed by one of his
friends for unknown reason.

The deceased was found by some hotel employees, who forced the
door of Heryanto's room at about 4 a.m. Saturday as he had not
come out of the room since Friday night.

It remained unclear, however, why Heryanto, a father of two,
was staying at the hotel. Neither his relatives nor the hotel
employees have given an explanation about the man or woman that
accompanied Heryanto during his stay.

A postmortem examination of his body by forensic experts at
Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital has not yet revealed the
cause of death.

Nuraeni, the deceased's wife, said tearfully that she
suspected one of her husband's acquaintances, who had a fight
with Heryanto a week before, as having committed the murder.

She has called for West Jakarta police detectives to
immediately carry out an in-depth investigation on the suspected
killing of her husband.

According to Tobri, the victim's brother in-law, Heryanto had
not returned home since Friday without any message to his family.

He denied the possibility that Heryanto might have committed
suicide. He said he never saw the victim depressed.

Heryanto, he said, was known as a kind and successful person
among his family.

Separately in West Jakarta, six men were mobbed by local
residents on Saturday in two incidents.

The first one, identified as Syamsul Rizal, was fatally mobbed
by Kebun Jeruk residents after a fight with another man, whose
car had collided with the one driven by the victim.

Syamsul, who identified himself to the residents as a
serviceman, refused to meet the people's call to stop the fight.
The residents became upset and mobbed him to death.

The other five men were mobbed by Joglo residents after the
five allegedly tried to steal a car in the area.

Two of them were killed in the mobbing. The other three are
still undergoing treatment at the police-run Soekanto hospital in
Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. (04)
