City military has new chief of staff
JAKARTA (JP): Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso, the City Military Command's
chief of staff, handed over yesterday his position to Brig. Gen.
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the command's former chief of
operations.
Sutiyoso will be appointed military command chief, replacing
Let. Gen. Wiranto.
Let. Gen. Wiranto, the outgoing commander, led the handing-
over ceremony at the Military Command's headquarters in East
Jakarta.
Wiranto said the appointment of Sutiyoso will ensure the
continuation of the City Military Command's programs.
He said both Sutiyoso and Yudhoyono are experienced and
capable officers. "They are very familiar with this
neighborhood."
Sutiyoso said he will be able to cooperate with Yudhoyono in
such programs as the National Discipline Campaign.
He said that he would be sworn in as military command chief
after ABRI holds its annual leadership meeting on March 25.
ABRI Chief of General Affairs Lt. Gen. Soeyono announced that
Wiranto will head the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad)
to replace Maj. Gen. Tarub, who is being considered for an
ambassadorial post.
Before the ceremony Wiranto launched a discipline campaign in
front of the Plaza Indonesia shopping center on Jl. MH Thamrin,
Central Jakarta.
Plaza Indonesia is the first private company to cooperate with
the military command's discipline drive. Yesterday was Plaza
Indonesia's sixth anniversary.
Wiranto asked private companies and offices along the Jl.
Jend. Sudirman and Jl. MH. Thamrin thoroughfares to also help
maintain discipline in the city. (04/rms)
