City, govt to draw up sewage master plan
JAKARTA: A joint team from the Jakarta administration and the Ministry of Public Works is preparing a master plan for the redevelopment of the sewage system across the capital, an executive said on Saturday.
"Hopefully, the team will be able to finalize the master plan this year," said the president director of the city-owned sewage utility, PD PAL Jaya, Pudjo Prihadi Santoso.
Pudjo said that the master plan would cover mapping areas in the city and possible options for managing sewage in those areas.
According to Pudjo, the administration will fully handle the management of sewage in slum areas, while private companies, if they were interested in investing here, could manage the sewage systems in more lucrative housing estates and prime business areas. --JP
