City Government Pushes SMEs to Advance through Halal Certification Facilitation
The North Jakarta City Government, through the Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM), is encouraging local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to advance by providing training or technical guidance on halal certification.
Head of the North Jakarta PPKUKM Office, Vicky Suryawan Jaya, stated that the technical guidance (bimtek) event held in Koja, North Jakarta, from 13-15 April 2026, is not merely training but a strategic step to strengthen the competitiveness of SME products in an increasingly competitive market.
“This bimtek is part of a simultaneous campaign across the entire DKI Jakarta region to encourage SME actors to understand and obtain halal certification,” he said in Jakarta on Monday.
A total of 150 business actors from the culinary and light beverage sectors participated in the event. Each sub-district sent 25 participants who are actively producing and ready to level up.
The PPKUKM Office also collaborated with the Indonesian Ulema Council’s Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Assessment Agency (LPPOM MUI). According to Vicky, participants were equipped with comprehensive understanding from raw material selection to production processes that meet halal standards.
Vicky targets more North Jakarta SME products to obtain halal certification, thereby having greater opportunities to penetrate local and national markets.
“The entire series of this training is provided free of charge, as a form of the government’s commitment to accelerating SME transformation,” he said.
One culinary business actor from “Kitcheri” in Penjaringan, Dwi Suratmi (37), said the training opened new insights for the development of her business, which she started in 2000.
Dwi admitted that her production has been ongoing, but only now has she received assistance for halal certification.
“This is very important to increase consumer trust,” she said.
She also hopes that with halal certification, her products will be more trusted and reach a wider market.
“This step is a strong signal that North Jakarta SMEs are not only encouraged to survive but also driven to grow, compete, and be ready to penetrate larger markets,” she said.
