City government asks residents to report uninhabitable houses for home renovation programme
The South Jakarta city government is asking residents to report any uninhabitable houses so they can receive assistance under the Home Renovation Programme (Program Bedah Rumah) from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas.
“For our brothers and sisters whose houses are not fit for habitation, please inform us immediately, whether through the RT, RW, or directly to the lurah or camat, or directly to me,” said Mayor Syafrin in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
Syafrin asked residents with uninhabitable homes to report promptly to their RT/RW or lurah and camat so they can receive assistance under the Home Renovation Programme from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).
For those who have already received assistance under the Home Renovation Programme, he reminded residents to monitor its implementation.
“Let us check together whether the work has been carried out properly or not. Although the Empowerment Centre already has technical experts and specialists supervising, because you will be the ones living in the house, you must also inspect it yourselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, Sri Haryati, said the Home Renovation Programme targets the repair of 400,000 uninhabitable housing units across Indonesia.
“For the Jakarta area, 10,300 units have been allocated, and in South Jakarta itself, 2,000 units have been allocated. However, if there are additional proposals, please submit them,” she said.
Haryati added that the requirement for residents to receive assistance under the Home Renovation Programme is simply to attach a statement letter confirming occupancy of the house, signed by the homeowner and acknowledged by the local lurah.
“However, it must be remembered not to violate the spatial plan. For example, are houses on riverbanks allowed? No, because that is a river setback area which also functions for flood management and so on. Likewise, on land belonging to other parties where it is not permitted, that is not allowed,” she said.
Haryati added that as long as the land belongs to the family or is inherited land, even if it does not yet have official documents, it will not be a problem.
“For the damage criteria, there are three categories, and meeting just one category is enough to apply for a home renovation. For example, from the health aspect, the use of asbestos roofing is no longer permitted,” she added.
