City erects health posts at stations, terminals
The city administration will set up health posts at bus terminals, railway stations, seaports and airports in the capital a week before and a week after the Idul Fitri holiday to provide health services for holidaymakers.
"The health posts will provide care for minor injuries and light ailments. Those suffering serious illness or severe injuries will be recommended to city-run hospitals for further treatment," City Health Agency head Abdul Chalik Masulili said at City Hall on Wednesday.
The health posts will be open 24 hours a day and will be free of charge.
Masulili said he had also asked public health centers and city-run hospitals to remain open during the holiday.
"The health centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19 to give our staffers a chance to celebrate the Idul Fitri holiday."
Emergency units at the city-run hospitals of Tarakan in Central Jakarta, Budhi Asih and Duren Sawit in East Jakarta, and Koja and Cengkareng in West Jakarta will remain open 24 hours a day.
"The surgery, pediatrics, gynecology and internal medicine wards will also be asked to stay open 24 hours a day," he added.
Masulili said city hospitals would also provide free services for the poor who could show a health care benefit card. Those who have yet to receive their benefit cards can ask for a letter confirming their financial status from their neighborhood unit chief.
He added that his agency would provide small bonuses to physicians and other medical staff who worked during the holiday. -- JP
