City, developer reach agreement

JAKARTA (JP): East Jakarta Mayor H. Sudarsono says the
municipal administration and PT Modernland Realty Ltd. have
reached a consensus regarding the provision of public and social
facilities by the developer.

"Currently the developer is building a housing complex and it
has promised that it will build public and social facilities in
the complex as required by the city administration," Sudarsono
told reporters on Tuesday. He added that the facilities should be
handed over to the administration by mid-1997 at the latest.

Sudarsono warned the company that he would not hesitate to
stop issuing building permits and certificates for land
appropriation to the company should it renege on its promise.

Any developer licensed to build a housing complex is required
to set aside part of the developed area for public facilities,
including parks, schools and mosques. (bas)
