City Councilors need to introspect
From Warta Kota
As a Jakarta citizen I can only feel sad and helpless after reading the news about the Jakarta City Council members who've given more emphasis to their own facilities than to public interests. After asking for a lot of land, they also asked for a car, whereas a car subsidy of Rp 75 million had been granted to each of them.
I am extremely concerned. They haven't even been working for one year, but they've made so many demands. People haven't seen their performance. The councilors should have known that what they are supposed to do is work first and ask for your reward after!
If they wanted to actually think and work there are a lot of problems in the community that they have to solve. Just have a look around the community to identify the existing problems.
For example, set up a team for the solution of garbage problems which hasn't been settled as yet. You can map out the problems and prepare a blue-print of solutions for short, medium and long term schemes, so the outputs can be made into an operational directive for the executives as well as a reference for the people.
Such a directive is important and it can't be left up to the executives because the executives have already been "established" in their power-centered frame of mind.
Breakthroughs and ideas are expected from the legislative people. But are the legislative members capable of doing so? I hope they are, but I am doubtful.
