City closes 15 entertainment centers

JAKARTA: The City Administration had closed 15 entertainment centers, most of which were used as prostitution and gambling centers, between January and July this year for violating regulations, an official said on Friday.

City Public Order Office head Firman Hutajulu said besides the 15 centers, about 100 other clubs were given warning letters for violating regulations.

Firman said the 15 centers, included a discotheque, a hotel, a cafe, a billiard hall and amusement centers.

One of the 15 centers was 1001 singing hall on Jl. Hayam Wuruk, West Jakarta which was closed on Sept. 25 for presenting strippers and providing foreign sexual workers.

Jakarta has, according to the office, some 2,887 licensed entertainment centers, 251 cinemas, 200 billiard halls, 1,228 bars and restaurants, 144 discotheques, 193 hotels, 12 night clubs, 35 cafes, 11 Sauna baths, 263 singing halls, 221 massage parlors, 20 barber shops and 20 amusement centers. --JP
