City builds three-star hotel
JAKARTA (JP): Buoyed by optimism over increased demands for three-star hotels in the city, PD Wisata Niaga Jaya, a city-owned company, will build a 16-story hotel in the Kabel area, Cempaka Putih district, Central Jakarta.
Gito Bantas, the company's president, said in the ground- breaking ceremony late last week that the state-owned Bank DKI and a number of private banks had agreed to jointly finance the construction of the three-star Hotel Cempaka Mayor.
The construction costs of the hotel, which is scheduled to be completed in 1996, is estimated to reach Rp 51.5 billion (US$24.5 million).
Wisata Niaga Jaya currently owns and manages three hotels, Motel Cempaka I in the Cempaka Putih district, Motel Cempaka II in Pulo Mas district, East Jakarta, and Jaya Cottage in Semper district, North Jakarta.
Deputy Governor for Economic and Development Tubagus M. Rais said in his opening remark that the management of Wisata Niaga Jaya should also pay attention to human resources development in order to compete with private-owned hotels.
Without directly referring to the poor service at the company's current hotels, Rais said that it is high time the company management improved the performance of their employees.
The city-owned company, Bantas said, chose to build a three- star hotel because the city still needs some 2,500 rooms in that particular price range.
Hotel Cempaka Mayor will have one president suite, 14 suites and 205 superior rooms.
As part of a major business expansion, Bantas said that the company will build another three-star hotel in Rawasari subdistrict, Cempaka Putih district in November.(09)
