City absorbs employees of defunct ministries

JAKARTA (JP): The City Administration officially absorbed on Tuesday 1,209 employees of the Jakarta offices of the defunct ministry of social affairs and ministry of information into its already sizable organization.

"We have to support the government's decision on the liquidation of the ministries. Employees should not worry anymore as they have now become the city administration's employees," Governor Sutiyoso told reporters after the ceremony at City Hall.

"The employees will be assigned to the city's agencies with regard to their expertise and experience. But we can't accommodate all the employees' wishes," he said, while suggesting the employees continue their daily duties.

Records show that the city administration has about 70,000 employees.

Sutiyoso said the new city administration's structure would accommodate as many as possible of the employees.

"Employees from the former ministry of information can continue their daily duties while awaiting the new structure, while those of the former ministry of Social Affairs are now attached to the City's Social Agency," he said.

The Jakarta office of the ministry of information transferred 543 employees, while the Jakarta office of the ministry of social affairs transferred its 666 employees. The shift of employees was followed by the conversion of all assets owned by both offices.

The Jakarta office of the information ministry transferred a four-story building at a 2-hectare plot on Jl. MT Haryono, South Jakarta, and five other buildings at five mayoralties.

The Jakarta office of the social affairs ministry handed over 10 social institutions throughout the city, such as homes for the elderly and rehabilitation centers for prostitutes and drug addicts. The institutions take care of 945 people.

Later in the afternoon at City Hall, Sutiyoso announced a reshuffle of the city administration, involving five new city officials.

City administration spokesman Muhayat said one of the new officials was Zainal Arifin, who will be the assistant to the City Secretary for Administrative Affairs, replacing Tursandi Alwi. Tursandi has been promoted as a director general at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Zainal, who is currently the assistant to the City Secretary on Social Welfare Affairs, will be replaced by Ritola Tasmaya from the Ministry of Health. Ritola was head of the Jakarta office of the National Family Planning Board (BKKBN).

Head of Jakarta office of the Directorate General of Tax Moechamad Soebakir was promoted to director at the same directorate general. He will be replaced by Abdul Asri Harahap.

Head of the Jakarta office of the State Auction and Debt Board (BUPLN) Samsul Chorib was appointed as member of the board's chairmanship. He will be replaced by Sutardjo.

Head of City Assets Office Dadang Ruskandar will provisionally replace Syafril Zainuddin as head of City Park Agency. Syafril will be a lecturer at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Muhayat said all the employees, except for Dadang, would be inaugurated at a ceremony on Wednesday.

"Dadang will only act as a caretaker until he completes the Intermediate Administration Course (Spamen), a requirement for his new position. He will also hold both positions for a while," he told reporters. (nvn)
