Citizenship Renunciation Fee Rises to Rp5 Million, Minister Supratman Explains

Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas has addressed the increase in the application fee for renouncing Indonesian citizenship to become a foreign national, which has been set at Rp5 million. Supratman stated that the tariff adjustment is intended to enhance public services at the Ministry of Law. “There is indeed a tariff adjustment. But the point is, firstly, the tariff adjustment is in the context of improving services. The Government Regulation on non-tax state revenue has not changed for 10 years,” Supratman told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta.

Supratman also commented on the fee for foreign nationals applying to become Indonesian citizens, which has risen from Rp50 million to Rp75 million. He argued that the increase would not pose a problem, expressing confidence that foreign nationals who meet the requirements for Indonesian citizenship already possess sufficient economic means. “The old tariff was Rp50 million. Now the new tariff is Rp75 million. And that is not a problem. Because on average, people who wish to become citizens, especially foreign nationals who have lived in Indonesia for 5 consecutive years or 10 non-consecutive years, are those with greater economic capabilities,” he explained.

Supratman further noted that the government is currently preparing cross-ministerial and institutional coordination to accelerate digital transformation in legal administration services. He added that managing the digital system requires maintenance costs to ensure optimal service delivery to the public. The government has officially issued Government Regulation Number 30 of 2026 on Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenue, signed by President Prabowo Subianto, which will come into effect on 1 August 2026.
