Citizens arrest three rebels

DILI, East Timor: Three members of the Security Disturbance Group, the official term for separatist groups, have been arrested and turned over to the military by the local people.

Udayana Military Command Chief Maj. Gen. Adang Ruchiatna said the citizens' arrest reflected that the people were getting tired of the rebels' activities and they desire peace.

Two of the men were arrested in Atsabe in the Ermera regency and the other in Dare in the Dili regency, according to Antara.

Adang said the offer of amnesty by President Soeharto to all remaining members of the separatist movement in East Timor still stands. "We promise to treat them well," he added. (emb)
