The National Police’s Professional and Security Division (Propam) has developed the Yanduan Propam complaints service application for members of the public who discover alleged violations by police officers. A resident of East Java admitted to being greatly assisted by the presence of this application.

The East Java resident recounted that in 2025, his child was detained at the PPA Unit of the Surabaya Metropolitan Police following a riot. At the time, the child’s mobile phone was held by officers.

“And one of my objections was that my child’s handphone was held for two months, while the others had been returned. Okay, I don’t mind the phone being held because perhaps the police needed data to be extracted from it,” the man said in an Instagram post by the National Police Propam Division in collaboration with the East Java Regional Police Propam Division.

The man explained that after two months had passed, there was no certainty as to when his child’s phone could be returned, even though the phone was needed for school purposes and exam preparation.

“I was confused. In the midst of that confusion, I tried to open the link and it turned out to be a public complaints service. This matched the problem I was facing with members of the Surabaya Metropolitan Police,” he said.

The use of the application is considered quite easy. Citizens only need to fill in their personal data, explain the chronology of the problem, and upload supporting documents.

“So I accessed it, I filled in the chronology. There is a data feature, I provided photos, videos, and other supporting data. It didn’t take long, just one day it was responded to by Propam, and two days later my problem was resolved at the Surabaya Metropolitan Police. My child’s phone was returned without anything missing,” he revealed.

The man expressed gratitude that his child’s phone was immediately returned after he made a report on the Yanduan Propam. He noted that previously, the public was often confused about where to complain.

“I and the public in general are sometimes confused and find it difficult when we have a problem and want to report it to the police. But it turns out that with this complaints service, the public doesn’t need to go all the way to the police station, to the regional police, or to the district police. It turns out that through the barcode, people can fill it in and be handled quickly by the police,” he explained.

He assessed that the existence of the Yanduan Propam application cuts the public complaints process short. Now, citizens do not need to bother visiting a police office in person to report alleged violations by officers.

“With this application, it has cut all distance and bureaucracy. My hope and the hope of the public in general is that the police consistently maintain this application so that it can continue to meet public expectations,” he concluded.
