Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto stated that food prices could be affected by rising fuel costs resulting from wars in the Middle East. However, according to Prabowo, Indonesia has nearly achieved food self-sufficiency. Prabowo made these remarks whilst inaugurating the Bailey Bridge and Armco Bridge in Aceh on Monday (9 March 2026). “What I have campaigned for over many years is food self-sufficiency. In circumstances of wars everywhere and fuel prices reaching very high levels, which can affect food prices, we are grateful that we have nearly achieved food self-sufficiency,” Prabowo said. He assured that Indonesia would soon also achieve the capability to meet its protein requirements. “Whatever happens and other nations face considerable difficulties, at minimum we are secure regarding food matters,” he stated. Meanwhile, Prabowo said he was also campaigning for energy self-sufficiency. “We possess great blessings from the Almighty that we will soon be able to meet our fuel requirements not from foreign imports, but from our own plants, from palm oil, from cassava, from maize, from sugarcane,” he added.
